Members Tell the PESA Story of Jobs, Technology and Independence
Without question, this is a challenging time for our sector of the industry. The price of oil trading at a six-year low supports the need for broad crude exports, pro-growth tax policies and a responsible regulatory environment.
Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) serves on The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and spoke to PESA members about issues critical to the service and supply sector.
Representing more than 1.3 million jobs in over 80 countries, 22 PESA member company executives took the message of job creation, technology and stability to Washington, D.C., during the Association’s sixth annual Fly-In this February. Over a period of three days, PESA met with more than 30 members of Congress and their staffers, Washington-based customer representatives, U.S. Department of State officials and industry thought leaders to discuss critical issues affecting the service and supply sector.
We are looking to lawmakers to use hearings and legislation to turn up the heat on regulators, and are taking that message to state capitols and Washington, D.C. Unnecessary hurdles in the path of our industry’s economic development will only serve to hinder the American energy renaissance.
Congressional leaders must use legislative and/or legal action to temper some of the Administration’s regulatory zeal as it considers clamping down on methane emissions, creating federal standards for hydraulic fracturing and requiring unattainable ozone metrics. Some of the issues discussed were:
Approval of Exports of LNG and Crude
PESA strongly supports the efforts of Senators Lisa Murkowski and Heidi Heitkamp in their introduction of the American Crude Oil Equality Act, to end the 40-year-old ban on U.S. crude oil exports.
Overreach of Federal Regulations
The Administration has and continues to release a series of regulations that will significantly impact the oil and natural gas industry. PESA supports a responsible regulatory environment that factors in economic and workforce impacts.
Offshore Drilling Access
The Department of the Interior (DOI) recently released a Draft Proposal for the 2017-2022 Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Oil and Gas Leasing Program. Studies suggest that opening the Atlantic offshore could create nearly 280,000 new American jobs and inject tens of billions of dollars into our economy. Under the current five-year plan, oil and gas exploration is banned in 87 percent of our offshore areas. PESA supports greater access to offshore resources, supporting domestic energy production in an environmentally safe manner.
