PESA Advisory Board Member Marco Caccavale, Vice President Americas – Turbomachinery & Process Solutions, Baker Hughes, led the year’s first Leadership Forum with a talk focused on the importance of intellectual curiosity to leadership. The full-capacity audience listened as he shared his thoughts on the universal themes applicable to all leadership.

Caccavale described how his own career path was determined in large part by allowing himself to be guided by curiosity. Pursuing areas that piqued his interest allowed Caccavale to fill positions, travel and gain valuable experience he would not have without the willingness to learn.

“Curiosity pushes you to the uncomfortable place of embracing things you are not familiar with,” Caccavale said. “You open yourself up to humbling experiences.”

He discussed how leadership is evolving in the internet era.

“Communication is now easier, so where management was once vertical, it’s now horizontal and horizontal leadership must foster diversity of experience to be a changing enzyme,” he said.

To Caccavale, leadership is about the team, not the individual.

He closed with an emphasis on the critical role of self-discipline. He advised attendees to always push themselves and remember that change is a fact.

PESA Leadership Forums provide Member Company high performers with the opportunity to interact with PESA Leadership in an informal setting. Check the PESA Events Calendar for information on our next forum.
