Committees Focus on Diversity & Inclusion Tools

Following the launch of PESA’s Gender Diversity Toolkit at the 2019 Annual Meeting, the Engagement and HR Committees have created programs that PESA will use going forward to drive greater diversity and inclusion (D&I) among Member Companies.

The PESA Engagement Committee, which is focused on diversity, initially set out in 2017 to understand where Member Companies are on gender diversity and measure progress to drive change. Together with Accenture, they created a first-ever gender diversity study for the oilfield services and equipment sector. The study, released in 2018, showed female employees in the oilfield services sector comprise 15% of the oil and gas workforce, as compared to 47% of the overall workforce in the United States. Only 8% of technical operational roles are filled by women in the sector, and less than 8% of the top leaders are women.

Given this result, the Engagement Committee set a goal to increase female employees within the oilfield services and equipment sector from 16% to 20% by 2020, and created an executive-level toolkit to support Member Companies in their diversity and inclusion goals.

In addition to the toolkit, two new programs will be launched by a joint task force of the two committees, led by HR Committee Chair Dave Warnick, Weir Oil & Gas; HR Committee Vice Chair Bonnie Houston, NOV; Engagement Committee Chair Debra Martinez, Exterran; Engagement Committee Vice Chair Amy Thompson, Apergy; Angela Knight, Chevron; Kelly Munson, DistributionNOW; Debbie Sehulster, Halliburton; Leslie Beyer, PESA; and Molly Determan, PESA.

  • PESA D&I Champion for Leaders Program: In 2020, this nine-month training and certification program will provide tools for individuals across functions to affect change within their organizations, focusing on the areas of Measurements and Metrics, Unconscious Bias, the Inclusion Journey, People/Talent Pipeline, Program Sustainability and more.  Utilizing interactive seminars, peer coaching and  the course will utilize the PESA Gender Diversity Toolkit to help companies create in-depth plans of action.
  • D&I Tips and Tools: Look to future issues of PESA News, beginning in August, for a column that offers perspectives on diversity issues from individual PESA Member Companies.

If you are a PESA Member and would like a copy of the toolkit, contact Director Membership Services Jackie Gaines.
