Certification Program Discusses Sustainability Report Planning, Identifying Stakeholders

ESG

Energy Workforce’s 2022 ESG Certification Program cohort met for its second seminar on May 26, covering topics such as the ESG reporting process, developing a plan to build a sustainability report, benefits of a materiality assessment and engaging stakeholders.

The ESG Certification Program, the first of its kind in the technology and services sector of the oil and gas industry, is now in its third year. The curriculum is designed to provide participants with best practices and practical tips for the current and future environment. When the program concludes, participants will know how to develop a reporting framework to provide ESG investors with the information they need.

Guest speaker Kaitlyn Allen, Vice President, ESG, ClimeCo, presented and shared tools on how to set, develop and achieve targets. She also provided an overview of carbon markets.

“There’s a lot that I’ve taken away — primarily filling in gaps with regard to ESG, what the relevance is of all of the reporting standards that people are developing within companies, the need for standardization. I have seen a lot about how ESG is being linked to the business strategy, as well as how organizations arrive at what they want to report. It’s great to see this all being discussed and brought to light.”

The priorities of Energy Workforce’s ESG Committee include the recently published SEC proposed rules on climate disclosures. When the proposed rule was published, Energy Workforce held a session with Pickering Energy Partners, PwC and Cornerstone to go through the different elements of the proposed rule and how that would impact the energy industry, and specifically Energy Workforce members. The Council has formed a working group composed of several Committee members and additional Member Company representatives to draft the comments.

Energy Workforce is also developing a sustainability reporting workshop, a half-day session which provides attendees with tangible best practices and tools that they can immediately start putting into work for their sustainability reports.

At the end of the year, the Committee will host the Annual ESG Capstone seminar, a full day event which will address various topics.
