PESA Members from 18 leading oilfield services and equipment companies came together on September 26 at Exterran for a speed mentoring session facilitated by the PESA HR & Emerging Executives Committees. Participants from PESA’s Emerging Executives Committee and Executive Leadership Program gained valuable career advice from seasoned HR professionals and PESA Member Company leaders.

Meeting for four 15-minute intervals, the mentors addressed current challenges and provided real-time advice in a confidential setting. The one-on-one mentoring sessions created an intimate environment to discuss growth, leadership and development.

“I can’t believe how much information was exchanged in such a short time frame,” Charlie Weakly, TechnipFMC, said. “I was very impressed with the mentors. It took 30 seconds to get into meaningful conversation, and 15 minutes was just long enough to gain valuable knowledge.”

Mentees arrived prepared with a specific career question/concern for mentors. Questions included how to advance in one’s career, navigating a career into another position or company, improving performance, managing up, self-development, navigating impending or recent M&A, and influencing a co-worker.

The instant feedback from multiple perspectives was exceptionally valuable,” Emerging Executives Committee Chair Andrew Little, Premium Oilfield Technologies, said.

Companies represented included Atlas Sand, Apergy, Baker Hughes, DistributionNOW, Exterran, Frank’s International, Gardner Denver Energy Group, Halliburton, NOV, Oceaneering, Premium Oilfield Technologies, PwC, Rubicon Oilfield International, Schlumberger, TechnipFMC, TETRA Technologies, Weir Oil & Gas and Wells Fargo Energy Group.

MENTEE FEEDBACK

“It was a great opportunity to network and meet new people – both mentees and mentors. I appreciated the diversity of backgrounds to learn from and gain information from different perspectives.”

“What I found most beneficial was that all four of my mentors had experience in the question I was asking. This allowed me to receive a wide range of responses and gave me a good perspective of what is important to me.”

“I found great value in interacting with professionals from many different aspects of the oil and gas industry.”
