HSEQ Task Force Moves Forward with Evolving COVID-19 Best Practices

HSEQ Task Force RecommendationsRepresentatives from more than 15 PESA Member Companies participated on an HSEQ Task Force virtual meeting on May 26 to discuss continuing best practices for the oilfield services and equipment sector. The group’s goal is to stay current on the constantly changing work environment and share best practices as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

Flexibility in implementing return to work best practices is proving to be essential. Some companies are allowing employees to return to work on a rotating schedule, while others are limiting the return to 50% of employees. Others are taking a wait-and-see approach, allowing their employees to continue working remotely through June 2020.

Although state and federal recommendations are being relaxed, this creates challenges as companies work to mitigate the risk of employee exposure to the COVID-19 virus under new guidelines. Educating employees on how to manage their exposure is one way to address this issue. There is an opportunity to merge this matter with Fit-For-Work processes currently in existence. The committee will research current approaches to develop standard recommendations.

The Task Force is also creating a process flow chart to address the handling of symptomatic or positive COVID-19 cases and their return to work. The subcommittee will be working in collaboration with other trade associations to create a streamlined document to share. Any recommendations from the committee will incorporate the most current CDC guidelines.
