PESA Member Company Halliburton recently worked with U.S. Silica and BNSF Railway to move the largest shipment of hydraulic fracturing sand in history from Ottawa, Illinois to Elmendorf, Texas near San Antonio.
It took five days to assemble the train cars at BNSF’s yard for the 19,000-ton shipment. The Halliburton South Texas plant has the ability to handle 115-car trains.
“This partnership between supplier, service provider, and railroad is another example of how PESA members are collaborating to increase efficiency,” said PESA President Leslie Beyer.
There has been a doubling in the amount of proppant used in hydraulic fracturing operations over the past seven years, according to industry statistics. This, combined with an increase in completions activity in the Permian, is placing increased pressure on supply chains.
“Breaking records is nothing new for the oilfield service, supply, and manufacturing sector,” said Beyer.
