Upstream Conventional & Unconventional Onshore Development Republican Lawmakers Announce Plan to Return Money to Oil-Producing Counties

This week, Republican lawmakers from Western North Dakota announced a plan to modify the state’s oil and gas gross production tax formula in order to increase returns to oil-producing counties in their region. Local governments currently receive 25 percent of oil tax revenues; however, the proposal will increase revenues to 60 percent. Lawmakers estimate counties would receive approximately $1 billion in the current biennium and nearly $2.2 billion in 2015-17. North Dakota’s surge in oil and gas production has left communities in the region struggling to expand services and maintain adequate infrastructure.
