PESA Moves Forward on Creation of Latin America Regional District – Argentina Chapter

Argentina1In June, PESA Vice President of Government Affairs, Tim Tarpley, travelled to Buenos Aires, Argentina to begin the process of setting up PESA’s Latin America Regional District – Argentina Chapter. Tarpley partnered with chapter Chair Federico Medrano, Vice President Latin America, Exterran.

The pair met with government officials from both the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires, U.S. Department of Trade, as well as representatives from the Argentinian government including the Chief of Staff of the Secretariat of Energy and a representative from the Argentina Investment and Trade Promotion Agency. Meetings were also held with Argentina energy trade organizations such as the Argentine Group of Petroleum Suppliers, and the Argentine Chamber of Petroleum Special Operations. Representatives from major operators in the Vaca Muerta region were also present including Shell, Exxon, YPF and Chevron.

After a productive round of meetings, consensus was reached that those present would support the creation of the PESA Argentina chapter, with a mission to provide support for PESA members who have operations in the area, as well as to support PESA members who may wish to expand their current operations or enter the market.

Argentina2All participants urged PESA members to consider new opportunities in the region, given that less the 4% of the Vaca Muerta field is currently explored, and the region is currently experiencing a shortage of energy services in many areas. Acute shortages are currently being experienced in logistics equipment, sand logistics, water services, fracking services, coil tubing, metal fabrication, waterline units and proppant services.

The official kick-off reception of the Latin America Regional District – Argentina Chapter is in Buenos Aires on September 24. PESA is also planning a webinar for PESA Members with the U.S. Embassy Buenos Aires, the U.S. Department of Trade, and our regional partners to highlight the opportunities in the region.
