Texas: Denton Fracking Ban Goes Into Effect

Upstream Conventional & Unconventional Onshore Development:

The City of Denton’s ban on hydraulic fracturing went into effect December 1. That same day, the city filed separate answers to legal challenges filed by the Texas Oil and Gas Association and the Texas General Land Office. Denton officials contend that activities associated with fracking activities, increased traffic, spills, vibrations, are typically regulated by municipalities and the city is not usurping the state’s authority to regulate the oil and gas industry. Denton Drilling Awareness Group, the local citizen’s group that fought to place the ban on the November ballot, joined forces with Earthworks, a national environmental organization, in filing a petition to be listed as interveners and defendants in legal challenges to the Denton fracking ban.
