Texas: New Rules in Place for Injection Wells

Upstream Conventional & Unconventional Onshore Development

[email_link]

On November 17, the State of Texas began enforcing new rules that require drilling operators to review U.S. Geological Survey data for a history of seismic activity within 100 square miles of a proposed well. This action follows a series of small earthquakes in North Texas. The earthquakes are currently being studied by scientists at Southern Methodist University. The rulemaking, also grants the Texas Railroad Commission the right to shut down or deny an injection well if it contributes to earthquakes.
