Well Control Rule Revised, Finalized

bseeOn May 2, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) released the much-anticipated revisions to its Well Control Rule. After careful review of the revisions, PESA leadership supports the changes and looks forward to following their implementation in the coming years.

The revised rule removes unnecessary regulatory burdens to offshore development while maintaining safety and environmental protection. It also fixes technical issues from the previous rule and includes improved provisions that allow onsite well personnel to maintain decision-making authority, as they are in the best position to make critical decisions on the rig.

“PESA applauds the revisions of the well control rule that were released by BSEE,” Tim Tarpley, Vice President Government Affairs, PESA, said. “PESA looks forward to working with its members to continue providing energy for our nation and the world while protecting the environment and safety of our sector’s workers offshore.”
