Energy Workforce & Technology Council Denounces Administration’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve Refill Delay

Houston— Today, Energy Workforce & Technology Council issued the following statement expressing concern over the Administration’s decision to abandon plans to replenish the strategic petroleum reserve. The move poses a threat to American energy security.

“As geopolitical tensions continue to rise, including Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and heightened instability in the Middle East, the Administration’s decision to once again defer refilling the strategic petroleum reserve is deeply troubling. Since 2021, the reserve has been significantly depleted, leaving the SPR at its lowest level in 40 years and leaving the country susceptible to sudden disruptions in supply. It is imperative that the Administration fulfill its obligation to maintain this critical resource for the American people, as mandated by law,” said Energy Workforce President Tarpley.

The strategic petroleum reserve serves as a vital safeguard against unforeseen disruptions in the global oil market, ensuring stability and resilience in times of crisis.

“The strategic petroleum reserve plays a pivotal role in safeguarding against unforeseen disruptions in the global oil market, providing a buffer to ensure stability and resilience in times of crisis. The American people expect and deserve proactive measures to safeguard our energy security. Immediate action must be taken to replenish the strategic petroleum reserve and fortify our nation’s resilience against future supply shocks. This decision jeopardizes American energy security at a time when stability is paramount,” said Energy Workforce President Molly Determan.
