Texas: Railroad Commission Announces Potential Urban Drilling Changes

Upstream Conventional & Unconventional Onshore Development

Texas Railroad Commission Chair Christi Craddick announced that the agency would look into creating new policies to increase oversight of drilling taking place in urban areas.  A range of activities, including oil and gas production and the disposal of oilfield waste, could be up for change. “In current times, we are looking at a state in which drilling does not necessarily occur in less populated, rural areas, as it once did years ago,” said Craddick. “We have heard the concerns expressed by those living in urban areas where drilling is occurring.” However, local anti-fracking activists have expressed doubt over the agency’s ability to mollify relationships between local activists and oil and gas operators.
