In August, PESA wrote EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy urging the agency to continue to follow scientific findings regarding the safety of hydraulic fracturing. The letter comes following the release of an advisory panel’s review of the EPA’s study examining hydraulic fracturing and drinking water.
The EPA “did not find evidence hydraulic fracturing has ‘led to widespread, systemic impacts on drinking water resources in the United States,’” the letter from PESA President Leslie Beyer stated. “More than 950 studies, reviews, and scientific assessments support EPA’s conclusion.”
The advisory panel’s review did not produce any evidence contradicting EPA’s conclusions, meaning that the final EPA report should maintain the science-backed language outlined earlier this year.
