Subpart W Information & Impacts for Sector

In May, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency published the final Greenhouse Gas Reporting Rule requirements for petroleum and natural gas systems under 40 C.F.R. Part 98, Subpart W.

The new rule comes from requirements in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) requiring EPA to develop standards to collect fees related to methane from facilities over certain thresholds. As such, these new rules expand the requirements to additional facilities, updates the calculation methods and applies to a wide range of oil and gas facilities.

After reviewing the final rule, Energy Workforce has compiled the most relevant information for the energy services and technology sector and addressed who will be required to report, the rule’s implementation timeline, and the impact on the sector.

Additional resources for the sector include materials from the EPA, such as slides from the EPA technical outreach webinar, the fact sheet, and the petroleum and natural gas systems sector profile.

If your company has additional questions regarding Subpart W, please reach out to President Tim Tarpley.
