A Bright Future for Young Minds

externs2020As with many programs throughout our industry, the IPAA/PESA Energy Education Center had to quickly reimagine the extern program and pivot to a virtual experience. The first week in June more than 40 students embarked on a week-long training in preparation for their externships later this summer.

The training focused on improving the soft skills necessary to be successful in a professional environment. Topics such as effective communication, conflict resolution, time management, and the importance of showing gratitude were thoroughly discussed. Through both individual and group assignments, students were encouraged to share their stories while also showing genuine interest in the people with whom they interact.  The final module encouraged students to think about who they needed to thank and to write it down. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that all of the students wanted to thank the Extern Program sponsors.

“Thank you for making my externship training possible. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it should give you great joy in knowing that you have changed my life for the better.

Learning about the inner workings of the energy industry, specifically about upstream, midstream, and downstream practices, has allowed me to solidify my future goals; I know that I want to work in the energy industry now, and I am going to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

This training, made possible by you, has opened up many doors for me. Being able to have this experience is a total game-changer for me.

Once again, through your generosity you have changed my life and blessed me.” Mark Bentick, IPAA/PESA Energy Education Center Extern

Over the coming weeks we will be sharing more quotes from thankful students via social media and encourage you to share their stories and words of gratitude as a way to show the positive things that are happening within our industry.
