California: Report Finds Fracking Can Be Done Safely Within the State

Upstream Conventional & Unconventional Onshore Development

On January 14, the California Department of Conservation issued its preliminary environmental impact report on unconventional drilling. In summarizing the study, California Oil and Gas Supervisor Steven Bohlen noted, “Most of the significant environmental impacts identified can be reduced to the level of ‘less-than-significant,’ including potential impacts to groundwater and surface water, as well as the threat of seismic activity.” Bohlen stated he is confident well stimulation activities can continue within the state without significant environmental impact.
