Colorado: Regulators Approve Increased Fines for Drilling Operations

Upstream Conventional & Unconventional Onshore Development

In early January, the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission approved an increase on the maximum daily penalty from $1,000 to $15,000 for each violation. The commission also eliminated a $10,000 penalty cap for each violation. The rulemaking follows House Bill 14-1356, signed into law in June 2014, requiring the oil and gas commission to tackle the violations issue. Overall, gas and oil producers did not fight the penalty increase.
