Senator Kennedy’s Conservation Funding Protection Act Ensures Americans Maintain Access to Reliable, Affordable Energy

“PESA and the men and women of the American energy industry thank Senators Kennedy and original cosponsors Sen. Hyde-Smith, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn and Sen. Wicker for introducing the Conservation Funding Protection Act today. This legislation guarantees that Americans will maintain access to the tremendous energy resources of the Gulf of Mexico, sustaining over 345,000 well paying jobs throughout the country and an overall $28.6B in GDP.

The Conservation Funding Protection Act simply requires that two region-wide lease sales occur each year on available acreage in the Western and Central Gulf of Mexico. These lease sales will ensure that American jobs are protected, and that our coastal states continue to have access to the $9B in state revenue provided by development of resources in the Gulf. These resources belong to all Americans, and should be developed in a safe and responsible manner.”
