Council Forms Working Group on Guyana

The Council is forming a working group to share best practices and information about opportunities and challenges when working in Guyana.

The South American country, bordered by Venezuela and Suriname, is home to some of the largest offshore oil discoveries in recent years, with some 10 billion barrels so far. Most recently, ExxonMobil announced two additional oil discoveries offshore Guyana, adding to previous discoveries in the region.

The Guyanese government has drafted a local content bill, which would regulate the new oil industry, relaxed minimum content requirements from previous drafts and includes company performance reviews subject to government monitoring. The government is focused on securing jobs and business opportunities for the Guyanese people and is building a consortium led by ExxonMobil.

If you or your team covers Guyana and would be interested in participating in the working group, please reach out to Director of Government Affairs Maria Suarez
