HOUSTON – Today, the Energy Workforce & Technology Council (EWTC) urged Congress to take immediate action on the bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2026 before lawmakers leave Washington for recess. The legislation, led by Sens. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Mike Lee (R-UT), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), would advance long-sought reforms to the federal permitting process.
“American businesses, workers and consumers have waited long enough for meaningful permitting reform,” said EWTC President Tim Tarpley. “This bill is an excellent bipartisan permitting reform package that goes a long way in ensuring that America can start building again. I urge the Senate to vote on this critical legislation as soon as possible. Every additional delay means more uncertainty for not only projects and investment, but the jobs America needs. Energy Security is too important to push off until after the elections or the next Congress.”
EWTC supports efforts to create a more predictable, efficient permitting system that lets critical energy and infrastructure projects move forward while maintaining appropriate environmental review. A similar package, the bipartisan SPEED Act led by Chairman Westerman, passed the House at the end of 2025.
