Energy Workforce President Molly Determan recently moderated a discussion on how the Permian can lead the way in technology development, operational excellence, and emissions transparency. The panel brought together industry leaders from across the energy and finance sectors to explore how innovation and accountability are reshaping operations in the basin.

Panelists included:
Matt Kolesar, Chief Environmental Scientist, ExxonMobil
David Clouse, Managing Director, Energy Innovation
Joey Bernica, Director, Climate Investment Capital
Derek D. Adams, PhD, Managing Director, Permian Energy Development Laboratory
The conversation focused on how producers are deploying advanced technologies, from continuous methane monitoring and satellite tracking to AI-based emissions analytics, to improve operational performance and strengthen reporting practices.
Another central theme was how operators are leveraging responsibly sourced gas certifications and transparent performance metrics to strengthen the Permian’s competitive edge in the global LNG market. The group explored what’s needed from regulators, buyers, and technology providers to create a scalable, credible framework for emissions accountability that supports both operational excellence and long-term industry competitiveness.
Finally, the discussion highlighted the broader value of innovation, not only in emissions management but also in driving cost savings, enhancing safety, and fostering stronger community trust.

Determan will also expand on these themes in an upcoming episode of the Energy Perspectives podcast, “Tech-Driven Transparency: Emissions Performance, Innovation, and Permian Leadership.” Stay tuned for the release!
