Participants from Evolution Well Services, Stewart & Stevenson and Superior Energy Services gathered at Expro in Lafayette, Louisiana, last week for the year’s final Core Leadership Skills for New & Upcoming Managers Training. The program is a two-day seminar designed to transform managers from individual contributors into effective leaders. Attendees learned about tools, resources and strategies to help develop and refine leadership skills within their roles.
Over the course of 2 days, participants learned about their leadership styles, how to be situationally agile, and the importance of self-awareness and empathy.
The session was sponsored by Strategic Partners, Chevron and SLB.
During the program kick-off, the facilitator asked the group to identify the differences between management and leadership and explored how emotional and social intelligence applied to themselves and those they work with.
After completing a personality assessment before the program, participants were able to dive deeper into understanding their own styles and recognizing the traits of others. The exercise helped them understand how and why individuals behave differently on good days versus bad days.
Another portion of the training focused on the importance of values, both organizational and personal. Participants explored how clearly identifying their values and personal purpose can strengthen their effectiveness as managers, helping them make better decisions, set clear priorities, and drive stronger team performance.
During the seminar, participants broke into groups to engage in exercises that encouraged collaboration, problem-solving, trust-building, and networking.
The program wrapped up with group discussions and key takeaways from the 2-day session.
“What stuck out the most to me was the shadow we are casting in our leadership. You don’t always think about this when you are interacting with your team and the impact we might have on the people,” said one participant. Someone else shared, “I think the best part about the class is exposing our weakness in team building but also showing us a path to build a better team.”
