Harold Hamm, Executive Chairman, Continental Resources, provided his thoughts on what the future holds for the U.S. energy industry, and the challenges and importance of domestic energy production, during a sold-out luncheon last week at the Hamm Institute for American Energy in Oklahoma City.

“The workforce is the backbone of our industry,” Hamm said in a fireside chat with Energy Workforce CEO Leslie Beyer. “That’s where I started and where my loyalties still are today.”

Hamm praised the oil and gas workforce for their important efforts over the last century, stating that he sees the market continuing to grow in upcoming years.

“We’re going to need the oil and gas industry for the next 100 years,” Hamm said.

Hamm told attendees to take pride in their work and the industry.

“Stand up, speak up and educate your neighbors around you. Tell people what a great industry it is to work in.”

Energy Workforce President Molly Determan kicked off the meeting with an introduction to the Association and a sector outlook.

“We are coming out of some of the most challenging times our nation and our world has faced, yet we are still providing affordable, reliable energy, and we really have an opportunity to talk about what this industry is and in particular the role that energy services and equipment companies play,” Determan said.

“It is so important we end the negative rhetoric about the industry. It directly impacts our ability to access talent and long-term investments. It’s critical that we enable our employees to be advocates for the oil and gas industry,” Determan said.

Austin Harbour, Managing Director, Piper Sandler, gave a market outlook.
