Industry Supports EPA Proposal to Withdraw Control Technique Guidelines

Environmental Protection Agency SealPESA supports the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposal to withdraw the control technique guidelines for the oil and natural gas industry that were published in the Federal Register in June of 2016.

EPA intended to reconsider certain aspects of fugitive emission requirements as part of the Obama Administration’s attempt to control air pollution and methane emissions under the Clean Air Act. The guidelines included three final rules intended to curb methane emissions, smog-forming volatile organic compounds, and air pollutants such as benzene as they apply to the oil and natural gas industry.

In proposing to withdraw these control technique guidelines, EPA has stated that it believes the withdrawal will be more efficient for states to revise in their state implementation plans.
