In a surprising move, Maryland voters elected Republican candidate Larry Hogan to replace retiring Democrat Governor Martin O’Malley. The Maryland Department of the Environment is currently evaluating the environmental impacts of drilling in western portions of the state. During his campaign, Hogan stated that drilling would raise revenue for Maryland’s economy and create jobs. Hogan will face a Democrat-controlled legislature when he assumes office, but the Marcellus Drilling News believes his election is a step in the positive direction for the drilling industry.
