The Energy Workforce Oklahoma Chapter, led by Chapter Chair Andy Horner, US Account Director with SLB, held a luncheon on September 9 in Oklahoma City with Keynote speaker Ryan Baker, Vice President, Anadarko Business Unit, Continental Resources.
Ryan Baker, VP Anadarko Business Unit with Continental Resources, discussed the global energy landscape, noting the significant price disparity between European gas at $26 per 1000 cubic feet and US gas at approximately $2.75 to $3.00. He said the key drivers of future gas demand will be LNG exports and data center energy requirements. Regarding inventory, Ryan noted the importance of maintaining US production, which currently stands at 14 million barrels of oil per day and 113 BCF of gas per day. He advised that while the Anadarko Basin is a highly profitable investment for rich gas projects, takeaway capacity remains critical, and Oklahoma has about 9 BCF of takeaway capacity.
Touching on Continental’s position as a top operator in Oklahoma, maintaining a high production level with approximately 45 rigs, Ryan advised the company is moving deeper into the basin to drive gas volumes. He noted Continental’s economic impact, with operations supporting 4,000 full-time employees and affecting roughly 14,000 people across Oklahoma. He told the attendees that Continental is actively expanding its footprint through significant acquisitions and international ventures. The company recently agreed to acquire Phoenix Global Resources in Argentina to develop a 100,000-barrel oil basin. Also notable is the recent acquisition of Firebird in the Permian Basin.
Energy Workforce President, Tim Tarpley kicked off the luncheon with an EWTC Technical programs overview and Election Outlook. Tim updated attendees on the SecureWell Programs, the highly anticipated Operators Course debuting this fall, and the Core Leadership Program the Energy Workforce offers. He also touched on federal election polling and predictions, noting differences in Republican and Democrat priorities.
