PESA and IPAA Members gathered at The Houstonian on November 12 to present the 2019 Explorers of Houston Award.

Since its inception in 1999, PESA has presented the award each year to recognize exploration and production companies that demonstrate excellence in leadership and innovation.

PESA Board Member Burk Ellison, Chief Sales Officer, DistributionNOW, presented the award to Doug Suttles, CEO, Encana Corporation.

Suttles expressed his immense pride in what the people and the entire industry of oil and gas accomplish, which he describes as making modern life possible.

He said Encana believes innovation and teamwork are the way to deliver excellence and the most dramatic moments in the history of energy have happened in North America over the last five years because of innovation, technology and teamwork. He credited the expertise and creativity of the people of the many companies in attendance.

“I’m particularly pleased with this award because we believe deeply that innovation is how you create value in this sector. Innovation is the history of this industry and it is what has helped create countless revolutionary strides.” Suttles said.

Encana hopes to redefine what the oil and gas business is, Suttles said, and he announced a redefinition of the Encana’s business, including a name change and tagline for the company. (Encana is rebranding as Ovintiv Inc.) Suttles emphasized the new Encana tagline of making modern life possible because, he said, “that is what our business does and that is what our company does.”

Suttles also discussed the importance of paving the way for the emerging classes and upcoming generations of oil and gas industry experts and how important it will be for them to reshape public perception of the industry. He explained that a major component to that reshaping is supporting oil and gas trades and encouraging those trades to work together, since they speak for companies.

PESA is proud to partner with companies like Encana Corporation as they set the stage for a strong future of the energy industry.
