PESA Supports Legislation to Guarantee Access to Offshore Energy Resources

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) and cosponsors Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Ted Cruz (R-TX), John Cornyn (R-TX) and Roger Wicker (R-MS) introduced the Conservation Funding Protection Act, which would mandate America’s continued access to the vast energy resources of the Gulf of Mexico.

These strategic energy resources support more than 345,000 well-paying jobs throughout the country and contribute more than $28.6 billion to the GDP. The bill would require two region-wide lease sales each year in the western and central Gulf of Mexico. Without this guarantee, future administrations could limit access by refusing to conduct lease sales.

PESA worked with a coalition of energy trade organizations to help draft the legislation. PESA and the coalition sent a letter to House and Senate leadership detailing their support for the bill and urging its passage. PESA will continue to fight for access to onshore and offshore federal lands for energy development.

For additional information on this legislation or on PESA’s efforts, please contact Tim Tarpley, Vice President Government Affairs.
