The Executive Leadership Integrated Leadership program continued with its second virtual session last week, facilitated by Heidrick & Struggles. The program, which is the second tier of the Leadership Programs offered by Energy Workforce, provided an opportunity for over 30 attendees to reflect on and strengthen their leadership capabilities while building connections with peers from across the industry.
The facilitators began the day by asking the participants to share key insights from their most recent executive coaching session, as well as takeaways from the initial program session. One participant shared, “Something that has hit me hard and has really stuck with me was how you need to be mindful of the shadows you create and the daily impacts you have both at work and outside of work. We talked about it in the course and our coaching session, and for me, that was so profound.”
Throughout the session, participants learned about and discussed topics such as understanding personal purpose, the art of delegation, the framework for an effective meeting, and the five leadership mindsets.
Breakout groups included discussions and exercises on which parts of leadership are the most difficult, ways to elevate engagement and collaboration, and how the treatment of those on your team really matters. The final breakout had groups participating in scenarios where you treat a new hire in different ways to show how the treatment of people can either set them up for great success or failure. These exercises emphasized the importance of understanding root causes behind employee behavior rather than addressing symptoms.
The session concluded with assignments for participants to assess their employees’ performance, engagement levels, and investment in development.
In addition to the seminars for these year-long programs, participants engage in leadership development activities outside their company. They also attend at least two Energy Workforce leadership meetings, such as leadership forums, where participants engage and network with energy leaders from across the industry. The program includes executive coaching from Heidrick & Struggles as well as valuable mentorship from members of the Energy Workforce’s Board of Directors and Advisory Board. This provides participants with a unique opportunity for strategic career advice and the chance to develop relationships with industry leaders.
