How Executive Leaders Shape High-Performing Teams Through Culture and Trust

For executive teams, performance is increasingly defined by culture, trust, and leadership behavior, not just results. That was the focus of the latest session of the Executive Leadership Cultivating High-Performing Teams & Cultures program last week in Houston at HMH.

The Executive Leadership Cultivating High-Performing Teams & Cultures program continued its work developing senior leaders across the industry. This program represents the third tier of Energy Workforce’s leadership development offerings, alongside Integrated Leadership and Frontline Leadership.

The session focused on what it takes to lead high-performing organizations in today’s evolving energy landscape. Participants explored the role of executive leadership in shaping team culture, strengthening collaboration, and driving sustained performance across organizations.

Facilitators from Heidrick & Struggles emphasized that effective leadership extends beyond individual performance and is reflected in the broader culture leaders create through their actions, communication, and decision-making.

Throughout the program, leaders were encouraged to reflect on their own leadership approach, how they influence team dynamics, and the importance of aligning behaviors with organizational values. The discussion underscored the critical role of trust, accountability, and psychological safety in building strong, resilient teams.

The session also highlighted broader themes of executive effectiveness, including leadership focus, intentional development, and the importance of continuously strengthening how leadership teams operate together.

Participants left with a renewed focus on their role in shaping culture and driving performance within their organizations.
