Last week, Energy Workforce partnered with the Argentina-Texas Chamber of Commerce for the Unlocking Vaca Muerta: Supply Chain Opportunities for the Oil & Gas Industry webinar, a strategic discussion highlighting emerging opportunities for the energy sector in the Vaca Muerta region of Argentina, one of the world’s largest unconventional oil and gas resources.
Energy Workforce President, Tim Tarpley, joined the discussion to highlight the support Energy Workforce provides to member companies as they navigate growth opportunities, operational needs, and the political landscape in Argentina. As global energy demand continues to rise, Vaca Muerta represents one of the most significant long-term opportunities for U.S. oilfield service companies to export technology, expertise, and equipment.
Tarpley highlighted key themes shaping the region’s future, including energy security, technology leadership, supply chain resilience, long-term investment and EWTC’s role as a connector and advocate for members advancing opportunities globally. Strengthening collaboration between the U.S. and Argentina can enhance energy security across the Western Hemisphere while creating new opportunities for the energy services sector. Success in the market depends on resilient supply chains, reliable logistics, strategic partnerships, and predictable trade policies that facilitate the movement of critical equipment and service. U.S. oilfield service companies are well positioned to support the region’s development by delivering advanced drilling technologies, digital solutions, operational expertise, and environmental innovations.
The webinar also featured the following industry speakers who provided insights into the region’s evolving ecosystem:
· Ariel Bosio, Argentina-Texas Chamber of Commerce, opened the discussion with an overview of ATCC and their collaboration with the industry leaders. He emphasized how import the Vaca Muerta region is for Argentina, South America, and the World.
· Marcelo Amden, U.S. Embassy, focused on how the U.S. Embassy supports the region through business matchmaking, trade events, and commercial diplomacy.
· Guillermo Grimoldi, Argentina-Texas Chamber of Commerce, discussed Argentina’s evolving import environment for the oil and gas industry. Since early 2024, the elimination of the former SIRA import licensing system has created a more business-friendly and streamlined customs process. He also noted that the U.S. Export-Import Bank (EXIM) has resumed financing for Argentina, offering credit terms of up to seven years for both public and private sector projects that support the development in Vaca Muerta.
· Luis Lanziani, Tecpetrol, focused on the technical bottlenecks and procurement needs associated to the region’s rapid growth. Vaca Muerta’s expansion will need infrastructure, industrial capacity, oilfield services, and energy transition to ensure the supply chain can keep up with the increasing demand.
· Emiliano Schlotthauer, Pan American Energy, provided an overview of Pan American Energy in South America, especially the Vaca Muerta region of Argentina. Emiliano discussed the region’s LNG potential markets, and the procurement and supply chain challenges in the region.
Energy Workforce supports multiple member companies that operate in Argentina through our Latin America Chapter. EWTC serves as an advocate helping members navigate international markets, address policy challenges, and capitalize on global growth opportunities. Throughout the year, EWTC has partnered with the U.S. Department of Commerce and ATCC to bring in U.S. oilfield service companies to fill additional service needs in the vast market.
