Council CEO Leslie Beyer Testifies Before Congressional Committees

energy

On Wednesday, Council CEO Leslie Beyer participated in a joint Congressional forum hosted by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform Republicans and the Congressional Western Caucus. The event brought together legislators and energy industry experts to discuss energy policies and their impacts throughout the economy.

In her opening statement, Beyer discussed how Energy Workforce Member Companies have the tools to produce the cleanest energy in the world in the most efficient way possible. She reiterated the importance of a robust domestic oil and natural gas program.

“No one produces energy cleaner, safer and more securely than the United States,” she said.

The legislators hosting the forum shared the unique perspectives from their districts across the country. Western Caucus Chairman Dan Newhouse (R-WA-04), Western Caucus Vice Chair James Comer (R-KY-01), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, and Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC-05), Ranking Member of the Oversight and Reform Environment Subcommittee, all discussed how energy prices have economy-wide consequences. From agriculture to manufacturing, high energy prices have major indirect impacts affecting inflation and the supply chain in every major industry.

During the question and answer portion of the event, Beyer had the opportunity to answer several questions from legislators on topics around decarbonization technologies, natural gas expansion and utilization, and the role of the energy workforce in the energy transition.

Responding to a question from Rep. Dave Joyce (R-OH-14) on how the U.S. oil and natural gas industry can help meet energy demand in a clean, efficient way, Beyer explained “Cleaner energy starts with us. It starts with the people who understand scale and global demand, and we can deliver.”

The forum also featured experts from the Western Energy Alliance, American Energy Alliance, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) and The Heritage Foundation, who shared analysis and anecdotes from their specific corners of the energy industry.

Beyer’s perspective and recommendations were well received by legislators and forum attendees. Her engagement in the forum is another example of the important and influential voice the Council has with policymakers.
