BSEE Holds Well Control Rule Implementation Workshop

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) recently held a workshop in Houston on implementation of the offshore Well Control Rule.

During the session, BSEE staff discussed the work they have done regarding implementation of the new regulation, as well as upcoming deadlines impacting equipment manufacturers, drilling contractors, and operating companies.

Since the rule became final in April, industry has submitted a large number of questions to BSEE regarding specifics of the regulation and the agency’s interpretation of the requirements.  The agency’s answers to those questions, which are being posted on its website, are being considered as official BSEE policy.

If companies have questions regarding a provision in the final rule, please submit the question directly to BSEE by e-mailing [email protected].  According to the agency, guidance will be provided based on the timing of implementation.

To find responses to previously submitted questions and to review the information presented at the Houston workshop, please visit https://www.bsee.gov/guidance-and-regulations/regulations/well-control-rule.  If you have further questions about this or any other regulatory matter, please contact Ryan Bowley at [email protected].
