Energy Workforce Backs Permitting Reform Order, Pushes Congress for Permanent Fix

HOUSTON- Today, the Energy Workforce and Technology Council released the following statement in support of President Trump’s Executive Order issued this week to modernize and streamline the permitting process.

“President Trump’s executive order to implement technological solutions to permitting reform is a much-needed step forward in streamlining the permitting reform process,” said Energy Workforce President Tim Tarpley. “By eliminating paper-based processes, improving interagency coordination, and applying digital tools to permitting and environmental reviews, this initiative will reduce costly delays and bring much-needed certainty to energy and infrastructure projects.”

The Executive Order directs federal agencies to adopt a unified, data-driven approach to permitting reviews, including the creation of a Permitting Technology Action Plan and a dedicated Permitting Innovation Center. These changes will increase transparency, reduce duplicative work, and provide greater predictability for stakeholders across the energy value chain.

Further, Tarpley discussed the need for Congress to act quickly to pass permitting reform measures.

“Modernizing permitting is not a partisan issue, it’s an economic imperative,” Tarpley added. “We urge Congress to build on President Trump’s momentum by passing full scale, permanent permitting reform, allowing America’s energy workforce to deliver the infrastructure our country needs to thrive.”
