Energy Workforce & Technology Council’s Racial Equality Taskforce promotes OFS recruitment at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and explores other higher learning institutions known for diversity.
Continuing a commitment to bring great HBCU partnerships to Council membership, Energy Workforce is pleased to announce our work with Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU), College of Engineering. For those not familiar with PVAMU, the College of Engineering offers bachelor and master’s degrees in chemical, civil and environmental, computer science, electrical and computer, and mechanical engineering.
While students concentrate on basic science, mathematics and engineering courses, they are also exposed to a broad range of humanities and social sciences classes, keeping them in touch with the world around them and putting their education to good use right away. For example, PVAMU, College of Engineering students participated in the 2021 Black Employee Network Phillips 66 Business and Engineering Diversity Case Competition. Students tackled corporate social responsibility outlooks and took first and second place in the competition.
There are a number of ways to get involved:
- Participate in workshops, seminars, or lectures for students (virtual or in-person) on topics from resume building and interviewing to internships and industry specifics
- Interface with faculty, suggest topics and course work – or even guest lecture
- Connect with student organizations (such as NSBE, ASME and IEEE)
- Have students come visit your facilities and/or job shadow
- Sponsor Senior Design projects, and offer externship and internship opportunities
