The Executive Leadership Cultivating High-Performing Teams & Cultures program kicked off last week, hosted in person by EWTC Member company Weatherford. The yearlong, program, in partnership with Heidrick & Struggles, gives Senior Directors and Vice President Level Leaders insight and skills that prepare them for future corporate level leadership roles. This is the third tier of the Leadership Programs offered by Energy Workforce, with others including Integrated Leadership and Frontline Leadership.
Opening remarks were delivered by Energy Workforce & Technology Council President, Molly Determan, welcoming participants and sharing an overview of the program.
The program was led by Doug Orr, Partner, and Laura Gironda, Principal at Heidrick & Struggles. Through a series of in-depth discussions and interactive sessions, participants explored key principles of effective leadership and executive team dynamics. The experience provided an opportunity for attendees to reflect on and strengthen their leadership capabilities while building connections with peers from across the industry.
During breakouts, participants collaborated and introduced different perspectives on what they deem as important regarding what makes an effective executive.
“I believe two key elements are that you really have to know your people and you have to have trust within your team.”
– Participant
Guest speaker Advisory Board Member Neal Lux, President and Chief Executive Officer, Forum Energy Technologies addressed the group giving participants insight into how he has navigated his personal leadership journey.
“Finding a leader or two that you can learn from is extremely valuable. That is why the coaching and mentoring piece of this program is so important.”
– Neal Lux
At the end of the session participants were given the opportunity to share what they learned during the session.
“I have a better sense of what the C-Suite expects and already understand how I can better support them in their roles “, said one participant.
Other participants said they appreciated the opportunity their organization was giving them to attend the program, especially after not going through leadership training for a while.
In addition to the seminars for these year-long programs, participants engage in leadership development activities outside their company. They also attend at least two Energy Workforce leadership meetings, such as leadership forums, where participants engage and network with energy leaders from across the industry. The program includes executive coaching from Heidrick & Struggles as well as valuable mentorship from members of the Energy Workforce’s Board of Directors and Advisory Board. This gives participants a unique opportunity for strategic career advice and to develop relationships with industry leaders.
