PESA Members are participating in STEM events with West Texas schools in 2020 as part of the IPAA/PESA Power Your Future program. The program provides middle school students the chance to engage with interactive STEM-related content and exposes them to STEM roles relevant to their interests.

These events include roundtable discussions where industry representatives will speak with students about connecting the skills and lessons in their digital curriculum with STEM career opportunities. To conclude the event, students will be awarded certificates to recognize their participation in the Power Your Future program.

The first of these events was held in November with employees from Occidental Petroleum. Several members of the PESA West Texas Steering Committee attended the event at Goddard Junior High in Midland to observe and plan for the 2020 events. To date, 300 students at Goddard are using the program. The STEM event is geared for 25 to 30 students from the sixth to eighth grades.

Since 2006, the IPAA/PESA Energy Education Center has inspired students in enhanced STEM curriculum through engineering, geoscience and leadership-based initiatives.
