Outgoing Governor Martin O’Malley (D) has stated he will allow drilling in Western Maryland ifoil and gas companies will adhere to restrictive rules related to well pad locations, drinking-water contamination and air pollution. The governor’s decision is based upon a report released by the state November 25. The rules will not go into effect until Governor-elect Larry Hogan (R) takes office January 21. The governor-elect supports fracking and previously criticized the state for taking too long to allow fracking.
