People, Technology and Performance Drive Discussion at Aon Energy Forum

Energy Workforce & Technology Council President Molly Determan recently joined Byron Beebe, CEO of Aon Human Capital, at Aon’s inaugural Energy Human Capital Forum in Houston for a discussion on the trends shaping the future of the energy sector.

During the session, “Mega Trends: Energy Sector People Strategy in a Volatile World,” Determan shared perspectives on how energy services companies are adapting to changing workforce expectations, emerging technologies and the growing demands on industry leadership.

A central theme was the importance of connecting workforce investments to operational performance. Determan discussed how successful AI adoption requires more than introducing new technology. Companies must demonstrate its practical value, build employee trust and equip frontline workers and supervisors with the skills to use new tools effectively.

The conversation also explored the connection between employee well-being, safety and operational readiness. Determan highlighted how companies are expanding access to preventive care, mental health resources and support closer to worksites to help employees remain healthy, productive and prepared for demanding operating environments.

On talent development and retention, Determan emphasized the importance of providing employees with a clear understanding of their opportunities for advancement. Transparent compensation practices, defined career pathways and opportunities to grow through technical and leadership roles can help companies retain experienced talent while developing the next generation of industry leaders.

The discussion reinforced that people strategy is ultimately a business strategy. As the energy sector continues to evolve, companies that successfully connect technology, leadership development and employee engagement will be better positioned to improve performance and compete for talent.

EWTC thanks Aon for the opportunity to contribute to this discussion and share the perspectives of the energy services and technology sector.
