PESA HR Committee Providing Resources in Follow-up to Townhall

The PESA Human Resources Committee hosted a townhall on March 13 addressing the effects of COVID-19 on the sector’s HR processes and procedures. PESA Human Resources Committee Chair Dave Warnick, Division VP, Human Resources, Weir Oil & Gas, facilitated the discussion, where more than 40 member company representatives shared experiences, talked about the business impacts, discussed strategies for managing the universal issues organizations are facing and providing insight on the newly developed tools they are using to meet the challenges head on.

 Attendees shared best practices around addressing the types of leave available to employees, identifying guidelines around which employees can be considered essential, tracking of corresponding laws by location (as many companies are international) as well as internal messaging tools for employees.

Challenges in the current environment include addressing concerns surrounding employees who can not work from home and extended absences. Member Companies have all implemented similar strategies on leave, tracking essential employees’ temperatures based on guidelines, tracking travel and consistently providing internal messaging to their employees with updates and tools.

The Human Resources Committee was also made aware of how the oilfield services sector could support the medical community treating patients with COVID-19 by providing personal protective equipment. Houston Methodist contact information was made available to the committee for those able to sell supplies to the hospital.

All participants were encouraged to submit additional questions and share any additional best practices, documents and resources, which PESA will continue to compile and distribute with town hall participants.

Following the call, PESA shared supporting resources, a guidance document from the Department of Homeland Security regarding what will be defined as “critical infrastructure,” a news release from the Department of Labor, a law tracker providing insight on updates and law based on location as well as updates on call topics discussed.
