On June 6, 2018, PESA joined the American Petroleum Institute’s Explore Offshore, a nationwide coalition to promote the safe and environmentally responsible exploration of America’s offshore oil and gas resources. The coalition, led by the bipartisan team of former Veterans Affairs Secretary Jim Nicholson and former Virginia Senator Jim Webb, will employ a grassroots approach to share a unified message about the benefits of offshore development.
A key part of Explore Offshore’s platform is the promotion of the National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program for 2019-2024. The program proposes opening 90% of drillable acreage in the OCS to leasing. OCS resources, which encompass an estimated 90 billion barrels of oil and 327 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, would propel America toward energy independence. Further, resource development would spark significant economic activity in coastal communities, creating as many as 425,000 jobs and $36 billion in government revenue annually.
