PESA Submits Comments on Delaware River Basin Commission Proposed Fracking Ban

On March 29, 2018, PESA submitted comments to the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) on its proposed rule to ban hydraulic fracking in the region. PESA stated that DRBC efforts to prohibit the development of energy resources through a fracking ban did not align with sound science or responsible policymaking. The proposed ban would infringe on the rights of property owners and impede economic development in surrounding communities. In closing, PESA stated the interstate-compact which formed the DRBC did not provide it the authority to ban any industrial, commercial or residential use of land in the basin.

PESA is working with the Marcellus Shale Coalition to ensure regional and state policies allow for the responsible development of oil and natural gas from unconventional formations. The PESA Government Affairs Subcommittee will continue to steward this issue as DRBC moves forward with reviewing the more than 8,000 comments submitted on its proposed ban.
