PESA Submits Comments on NAFTA Renegotiation to USTR

In May, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) commenced the process to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). In addition to consulting with the U.S. Congress, USTR requested public comments on matters relevant to the modernization of NAFTA to inform the U.S. negotiating position.

In comments submitted to USTR, PESA provided the views of the oilfield equipment and services sector on NAFTA modernization. PESA stressed that as negotiations commence, it is essential for U.S. policymakers to recognize the importance of sustaining and promoting a strong and integrated North American oil and natural gas market. In turn, this will require the current NAFTA architecture to remain in place.

PESA’s International Trade Policy Subcommittee will continue to lead PESA’s involvement as NAFTA renegotiations progress.

If you have any questions or would like to contribute to this process, please contact PESA Sr. Director of Public Policy, Jean Gould.
