Texas: Bill Introduced to Protect Local Drilling

Upstream Conventional & Unconventional Onshore Development

In light of a recently-passed fracking ban in Denton, Representative Phil King has introduced legislation that would discourage the proliferation of local fracking bans across the state. King filed House Bills 539 and 540 this week requiring localities to seek the Attorney General’s approval to ban fracking at the local level, pay for the commission of a study that would examine the financial impact of drilling bans, compel local governments to pay the state for any revenue lost due to fracking. “Other cities are looking at similar actions, and the last thing we need is a number of cities ending up in litigation with their citizens, with oil and gas companies, and with the state,” King said.
