Energy Workforce President Molly Determan joined industry and government leaders in Houston for a U.S.-Vietnam energy roundtable focused on strengthening collaboration, advancing technology, and supporting long-term energy growth here in the U.S. and Vietnam.
Hosted alongside the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Greater Houston Partnership, and representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, discussions highlighted the critical role energy plays in economic growth, infrastructure development, and global partnership opportunities.
Industry leaders explored opportunities for U.S. companies to engage in Vietnam’s growing energy sector through technology innovation, operational expertise, investment, and equipment development. The dialogue also addressed the importance of knowledge exchange, workforce training, and regulatory alignment to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and sustainably.
“Industrial growth and digital infrastructure, particularly data centers, require always-on, reliable power at a scale renewable sources alone cannot meet,” said Determan during the discussion.
Energy Workforce member Chris Berrie of Caterpillar Inc. Oil & Gas also participated in the discussion, highlighting the essential role equipment manufacturers and technology providers play in supporting long-term energy growth, improving operational reliability, and enabling safer, more efficient project execution.
Vietnam leaders emphasized that energy security is a top priority for Vietnam and recognized the U.S. as a strategic partner though the import of raw materials from the U.S., the U.S. investment in the energy sector abroad, and the supply of technology and equipment.
Additionally, leaders noted that continued collaboration between governments and industry will be key to scaling innovation and ensuring energy security in a rapidly evolving global landscape. The conversation reinforced the importance of international collaboration in building reliable energy systems, strengthening supply chains, and supporting economic opportunity in both the United States and Vietnam. Participants concluded that sustained engagement between stakeholders will be essential to fostering resilient energy partnerships and driving long-term economic growth across both regions.
