What is Hydraulic Fracturing?

Hydraulic fracturing is a decades-old technology used to develop oil and natural gas resources from deep shale formations. With this innovation, PESA members have helped to grow city and state economies across the country; creating jobs and infusing millions of dollars into our communities. Yet while the process is now used in roughly 90 percent of new oil and natural gas wells, many are still unfamiliar with how hydraulic fracturing really works.
