EWTC President Molly Determan Discussing Redefining Leadership: Shifting from Skillset to Mindset

At this year’s Women’s Global Leadership Conference, Energy Workforce President Molly Determan moderated a compelling discussion on what it truly means to evolve as a leader in today’s energy industry.

Joining her on the panel were:

  • Donna Broz, Engineering Technical Services Manager, Coastal Chemical
  • Mandeep Grewal, Manager, SAP Plus – HR Lead, TC Energy
  • Meredith Hunter, Vice President, Engineering Strategy, TechnipFMC
  • Julie Mayo, SVP & Chief Legal Officer, Sempra Infrastructure

The panel, titled “Evolving the Leadership Mindset,” focused on how leadership transitions go far beyond gaining a new title or position, demanding a fundamental shift in how individuals think, communicate, and show up for their teams.

The conversation explored how leadership isn’t just about a promotion or a new title, but about a shift in mindset. The panelists shared how learning to delegate, empower others, and navigate visibility and influence requires not only skill but self-awareness and confidence. Further, they discussed the pivotal changes in perspective that come with new responsibility, and how to overcome self-doubt while leading with authenticity and purpose.

Determan noted that these mindset shifts are essential for building strong, adaptable teams in an industry that continues to evolve through innovation and transformation. Each speaker reinforced the importance of mentorship, inclusion, and creating pathways for others to lead with purpose.
