EWTC joined the American Petroleum Institute, American Clean Power Association, American Exploration and Production Council, Interstate Natural Gas Association of America, Permian Basin Petroleum Association, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in a joint letter to House Ways & Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith, urging swift advancement of H.R. 5926, the Mexican Energy Trade Enforcement Act. The legislation would strengthen enforcement of U.S. rights under the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement and safeguard American energy interests. Introduced by Rep. Jodey Arrington (TX-19), the bill responds to mounting concerns that Mexico’s recent energy policies favor state-owned companies, restrict fair access for U.S. producers, and undermine USMCA commitments on competition, market access, and investment protections.
These actions directly impact American energy companies that have invested billions in cross-border infrastructure, fuel supply chains, and power generation. The resulting uncertainty threatens U.S. jobs, weakens returns on American investment, and undermines confidence in North American energy markets.
The legislation would strengthen enforcement tools to ensure U.S. energy producers and exporters are treated fairly and that trade commitments are upheld. American energy competitiveness is critical not only for economic growth but also for maintaining reliable, secure, and integrated energy systems across North America.
